1 MILLION YOUTH ACTIONS CHALLENGE: A NEW MANDATE FROM THE SWISS GOVERNMENT

We are delighted to strengthen our role in the 1 Million Youth Action Challenge (1MYAC). The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the existing project partners have entrusted us with the coordination of the project – a task that we are now undertaking with great enthusiasm.

1 Million Youth Action Challenge, a way to mobilize youth towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Initiated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and launched in 2021, 1 Million Youth Actions Challenge aims to stimulate young people around the world between the ages of 10 and 30 to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The goal is to achieve 1,000,000 actions by young people!

Through actions 1MYAC aims at making the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) more concrete and empower youth to act for a sustainable future. On the online platform 1MYAC, standardized actions are proposed. These are classified according to four SDGs: SDG 6 on drinking water and sanitation, SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production, SDG 13 on climate action (climate change) and SDG 15 on life on earth (biodiversity). To participate, all that’s needed is to create an account, either individually, or as a group! Teachers and educators are invited to register their classes to implement education for sustainable development.

Already in action

More than 7’000 young people have already taken concrete actions and 1MYAC is now mobilizing 60 Ambassadors in more than 30 countries who want to multiply the actions. For example, the Action of the Month of September was organized in Latin America by Samuel, a 1MYAC Ambassador. He mobilized a group of 20 people to participate in a beach clean-up in Mexico!

A Common Future

The International Secretariat for Water’s large youth network and the expertise of the 1MYAC team will undoubtedly benefit both the ISW and 1MYAC. Together, we are already working to reach 1’000’000 youth actions!

ISW is very excited about this mission:

“As the world’s leading platform for “youth for water”, the ISW has set itself the objective of supporting the implementation of local projects led by young people. 1MYAC is a promising tool to encourage the younger generation to take action, and thus contribute concretely to a more sustainable and equitable world. The ISW will carry out this new mandate entrusted by the SDC with great enthusiasm.”
