Our first RésEAU webinar will be on The costs of inaction: how to make the case for reform. This webinar is of relevance to all who are working on making environmental reform happen – be it on water, climate change, land use or clean air. It will explore another way to push policy-makers to act, namely by quantifying and having a better understanding of the costs of inaction, or the economic benefits of policy action. It will provide a critical evidence base to help to gain support for such measures.
During this webinar, Dr Elisa Lanzi from the OECD will present the methodology behind the analysis on the economic costs of environmental policies, and how it has led policy-makers to push for reform by referring to concrete examples. We will also hear from Dr Benjamin Pohl (Adelphi), lead author of a study on the economic consequences of inaction on transboundary water management in Central Asia, about how this methodology was applied to the water sector in this context. Finally, Dr Iskandar Abdullaev, director of the regional environmental centre for Central Asia CAREC will present the impact of this approach on the water sector in the Central Asia context, and perspectives for policy reform.
This webinar will take place on Monday, 23rd of April, at 10.30 a.m. CEST (Bern time).
