6th General Assembly of the World Youth Parliament for Water

From May 15 to 25, 2024, nearly 70 young people from more than 40 countries will gather for the 6th General Assembly of the World Youth Parliament for Water, to be held in Bali, Indonesia, alongside the 10th World Water Forum.

Since 2002, the International Secretariat for Water has been mobilizing hundreds of young people from all over the world for the General Assemblies of the World Youth Parliament for Water, whose objectives are to build capacity, acquire key skills and define youth priorities for water.

The 6th WYPW General Assembly will be held under the theme “Water and youth : levers for cooperation and peace”. It will bring together young people over a 10-day period (4 days before and 6 days during the World Water Forum). From over 650 applications received, 70 young participants from over 40 countries have been selected.

The main aim of this General Assembly is to strengthen young people’s knowledge of the World Water Forum’s theme, with a view to optimizing their presence and influence.

The objectives are manifold:

  • Raise the voice, presence and influence of youth at the 10th World Water Forum
  • To draw up the WYPW’s action plan for the next three years and renew its membership
  • Enable young people from diverse backgrounds to deepen their knowledge
  • Enable young people to acquire essential communication and advocacy skills
  • Enable participants to advocate for adequate youth representation and make their voices heard by decision-makers for rapid transformation
  • Enable participants to develop their network

Under the aegis of the Forum’s theme “Water for shared prosperity”, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in interactive and stimulating workshops
  • discover Indonesian water issues through field visits and activities with local communities
  • Meet experts and other young leaders in the water sector
  • Influence the political process of the 10th World Water Forum
  • Present youth perspectives and priorities at several Forum sessions and events
  • Reinforce the strength and unity of the Global Youth  Movement for Water

The program for the 6th General Assembly focuses on three areas: strengthening network cohesion, enhancing the knowledge and skills of young professionals, and promoting the voice of youth.

The outcomes of the WYPW’s 6th General Assembly will be presented by young people at the various thematic, regional and political sessions. In fact, all WYPW young people will have the chance to speak at the Forum, highlighting the importance of intergenerational dialogue in developing concrete solutions to water-related issues.

The World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW) is a growing network of young change-makers acting for water around the world, launched in 2002.
